Judith Jaimet Bainbridge is a wordartist, having worked for
20 years using her Scribe Skills for the Federal Government and the Governor
General. Now retired, she is pursuing her interest in three-dimensional art,
books, mobiles, sculpture, and installations, but always containing words.
Judy lives in Ottawa, and teaches there and in the Haliburton area. Raised in Hamilton, she graduated with a BSc in Nursing from the University of Toronto, and with a BA in Philosophy from the University of Toronto and graduate work at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
Her art training began very early, at the Ottawa School of Art, various community centres, and hundreds of hours of workshop training with international Calligraphic Artists. She specialized as a scribe, in historical scripts, cutting quills, writing on skins, decorated letters and gilding.
She has taught lettering arts and related arts, since 1981, and continues to love to pass on her skills. Her goal is to have taught in all of the Canadian provinces, having already done so in Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba and BC. Currently she teaches in her studio in Ottawa, through the Calligraphy Society of Ottawa, and at various locations in Haliburton County.
Clients:
Federal Government of Canada: Supreme Court, Department of Veteran Affairs, Secretary of State, and the Governor General's Heraldic Authority
